Fabric Collage
A Story in Colour and Cloth — $150
A scrap of fabric can hold a surprising amount of possibility. In this two-day workshop, we’ll explore how colour, texture, and shape come together to create a picture or design of our own choosing.
We’ll spend two days together, with six hours of creative workshop time and a one-hour lunch break each day.
We’ll create a collage with a 4 × 6-inch design on a 5 × 7-inch backing, ready to display in an included frame with matting.
On our first day, we’ll explore colour and fabric, cut and arrange our pieces, and begin securing them with stitching.
We’ll try fabric collage techniques—cutting, tearing, and drawing out threads—with room to shift things around, follow our curiosity, and discover what we like.
On our second day, we’ll bring another layer of expression to our collage through embroidery and embellishment. A stitched line, a little texture, or a carefully placed detail can bring the work to life. We’ll have time to explore, develop our piece, and prepare it for framing.
Throughout both days, we’ll let our own inner guidance help shape what we make.
Some embroidery experience is recommended. If stitching is new to you, our Stitch Book workshop, Painting with Thread, is a helpful place to begin.
Everything for the making is included in your $150 workshop:
- Backing fabric for your collage
- A selection of collage fabrics, including cotton, linen, silk, wool, and more
- A variety of threads, ribbons, and wool for stitching and embellishment
- A frame with matting for your finished piece
- Use of scissors, needles, needle threaders, pins, cutting boards, irons, and ironing boards
Just bring your curiosity and your lunch on both days.
If you’d like a project to explore at home, the A Whale of a Tale Fabric Collage Kit is available separately for $48.
This workshop is one stitch in the life we’re shaping, thriving through wholehearted living with presence, choice, and heart.
