This workshop is about learning through your hands.

You’ll be taught foundational macramé knots that form the building blocks of countless future projects — from plant hangers to wall pieces to wearable art. These knots won’t just be demonstrated. You’ll explore the knots until your hands understand their rhythm.

Alongside knotting, we’ll work with extensive beading, learning how to integrate beads into your macramé so they become part of the structure — not just decoration. You’ll explore how thread and bead work together to carry weight, distribute tension, and create flow.

The project for this class is a hanging porcelain candleholder.
You’ll be knotting and designing around an actual functional object — learning how structure, weight, and tension matter when something needs to safely hold fire, not just look nice.

You’ll make design decisions as you go, working with:

  • Balance — how weight and tension affect stability
  • Colour — how different combinations shift the feeling of the piece
  • Texture — how thread, porcelain, and bead interact visually and physically

This isn’t about copying a pattern perfectly. It’s about learning to respond to what’s unfolding in front of you.

  • You may tangle.
  • You may need to undo knots.
  • You may change your mind halfway through.

That’s part of the process.

Here, creativity isn’t treated as performance. It’s treated as a practice of attention, adjustment, and presence.

And when you leave, you won’t just take home a candleholder.
You’ll take with you:

  • Practical knotting skills
  • A deeper understanding of materials and design
  • A renewed trust in your own creative process
