Embellished Wool
Stitch, collage and needle refining techniques — $150
There’s pleasure in returning to something we’ve made—seeing its beauty again and imagining what else we could do with it.
In this 2-day workshop, we’ll explore embroidery, needle felting, and embellishments on our own felted pieces. Bring a landscape or abstract work you’d like to develop, and we’ll consider possibilities together.
Using the stitches featured in Painting with Thread, we’ll explore how spacing, direction, and thread weight can create movement, depth, and detail.
We’ll also explore how needle felting can develop the surface of an existing piece, including wet-felted cloth. Different fibres offer different possibilities for blending, shaping, and building texture. We can sharpen a detail, deepen a shadow, suggest movement in water, or give foliage more definition, discovering how these additions work alongside our embroidery.
Wool locks, yarns, silk, metallic threads, beads, and fabrics give us plenty to experiment with. We might bring out a colour, develop a favourite area, or try a material we haven’t used before. We’ll also notice what we want to leave just as it is.
You’ll receive practical guidance in techniques, colour, and design as you work, with room to follow your own ideas.
We’ll spend seven hours together, including a one-hour lunch break. Please bring your own lunch.
Your $85 workshop includes:
- Instruction and individual guidance on your piece
- Embellishment materials, including wool locks, yarns, silk, metallic threads, beads, and selected fabrics
- Use of studio tools for embroidery and needle felting
- A copy of the Painting with Thread booklet to take home
Experience needed:
Completion of Painting with Thread (Stitch Book), or some embroidery experience, is required.
What to bring:
☐ Bring the piece you made in Woolscapes or Wet Felting, or another felted creation of your own. Let’s enjoy what you’ve made and see where we can take it next.
☐ Bring your lunch and your curiosity, too—we’ll keep playing.
What you take home:
Your piece with the work you’ve added during the day, your Painting with Thread booklet, and techniques to continue exploring at home. How far you take your piece will depend on its size and the details you choose.
We’ll make time over lunch to rest, share conversation, and get to know one another.
This workshop is one stitch in the life we’re shaping, thriving through wholehearted living with presence, choice, and heart.
